Songs of Douglass and Littell is the new album by Inara George that revisits songs written over thirty years ago by her longtime friends Eliot Douglass and Philip Littell. Inara first met Philip as a child at the Theatricum Botanicum and later performed in his and Eliot’s work in the 1990s Los Angeles theater scene. Known for her folk-pop and indie projects—All Rise, Dearest Everybody, The Bird and the Bee, and The Living Sisters—she brings her clear, warm voice to these songs with a sound that blends her folk-pop roots with subtle jazz influences. Recorded live with orchestrations by Jeff Babko and production by Mike Andrews, Songs of Douglass & Littell, not only honors the creative bond between Inara, Eliot and Philip, but also brings these long-forgotten songs into the light—tenderly, joyfully, and with a sense of homecoming.

Thanks so much to everyone who has streamed or purchased “La Lune S’en Va,” the first single from @inara_george’s upcoming album 𝘚𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭, and to all the artists who have danced along to it. The invitation to collaborate is what this album is really about, and that’s what we wanted to achieve by asking all these amazing dancers to participate. There’s a full-length music video for the song available on YouTube that features parts of all their performances - link in bio! “La Lune S’en Va” has also been featured on several @applemusic playlists, including “Mellow Days” and “indie + chill.” Find it there, or on the other streaming services.

This poem was written by #mariehowe and set to music by @inara_george Singularity Marie Howe (after Stephen Hawking) Do you sometimes want to wake up to the singularity we once were? so compact nobody needed a bed, or food or money— nobody hiding in the school bathroom or home alone pulling open the drawer where the pills are kept. For every atom belonging to me as good Belongs to you. Remember? There was no Nature. No them. No tests to determine if the elephant grieves her calf or if the coral reef feels pain. Trashed oceans don’t speak English or Farsi or French; would that we could wake up to what we were —when we were ocean and before that to when sky was earth, and animal was energy, and rock was liquid and stars were space and space was not at all—nothing before we came to believe humans were so important before this awful loneliness. Can molecules recall it? what once was? before anything happened? No I, no We, no one. No was No verb no noun only a tiny tiny dot brimming with is is is is is All everything home
